Tomorrow, the old year ends. 🐦‍⬛

As the wheel of the year turns, we find ourselves standing in the liminal space of October 30th—the Eve of the Veil. Often overshadowed by the festivities of Halloween, this sacred night holds deep, transformative energy. It is a powerful threshold moment, a pause between what was and what is yet to come.

Tonight is not about costumes or candy; it is for alchemy. It is about taking the heavy, unexpressed weights of the past year and turning pain into release.

The Power of the Threshold: Why October 30 Matters

In many ancient traditions, particularly the Celtic celebration of Samhain, the veil between the physical world and the spiritual realm is believed to be at its thinnest during this time. For centuries, this night has marked the end of the harvest season and the beginning of the "dark half" of the year—what many modern practitioners affectionately call the Witches' New Year.

Because energy is potent and introspection is natural as the nights grow longer, October 30 is the ultimate night for shadow work.

Shadow work is the practice of exploring the hidden, repressed, or unacknowledged parts of ourselves. It asks us to look closely at our triggers, our grief, our betrayals, and the recurring loops we find ourselves trapped in. We cannot manifest a vibrant, aligned new year while carrying the baggage, bitterness, and burnout of the old one.

Before we can welcome new growth, we must make space for it.

A Ritual for the Eve of the Veil: The Release Burn

How do you honor this threshold? You turn to inner alchemy.

Tonight, give yourself the gift of closure. Grab a pen, a piece of paper, and a fire-safe dish. Create a quiet space—perhaps light a candle, turn off harsh overhead lights, and ground your energy.

Then, answer these questions honestly on the page:

What hurts am I still holding onto from this past year?

Which betrayals or disappointments am I ready to stop reliving?

What toxic cycles, habits, or mindsets do I refuse to carry across the threshold into the new year?

Write it all down. Do not edit yourself, and do not hold back. Pour your raw emotions, frustrations, and heartbreak onto the paper.

Once you have externalized that pain, let it burn safely. Watch the flames consume the words, symbolizing the transmutation of heavy energy into ash. As the paper turns to smoke and embers, consciously release those burdens. Leave them in the ashes where they belong. They no longer serve your evolution.

Beyond the Veil: Continuing the Journey

Releasing what hurts is only the first step. True shadow growth requires ongoing dedication, gentle curiosity, and deep self-compassion.

If you are wondering how to navigate the darkness, decode your inner blocks, and step into genuine transformation, your journey begins right here at Samhain.
